KENNETH W. BOSWELL
Kenneth Boswell began his political career in 2000 when he was elected as Councilman for District Five in Enterprise, Alabama. In 2003, he was appointed Mayor of Enterprise and subsequently, was reelected in 2004, 2008 and again in 2012. He is a strong supporter of his community and economic growth through a healthy existing business community and the recruitment of new business and industry. He works closely with the Alabama Development Office and the Enterprise Coffee Geneva Economic Development Corporation as Enterprise continues to experience a time of economic growth that is adding jobs through both the expansion of existing companies and the location of new businesses to the area.
Kenneth was born in Elba, Alabama and is a 1977 graduate of the Elba City School System. He has been married to the former Melinda K. Modlin of New Brockton, Alabama for 35 years. They have one daughter, Alane. His parents are the late Johnny and Annis Boswell of Elba, Alabama. As a teenager, Kenneth worked with the Elba packing company and Dorsey Trailers. In January 1978, he began serving with the Alabama Army National Guard and later that year began his career in the Insurance Business in Enterprise. In early 1980, he and his wife purchased their first home in Enterprise.
Kenneth has taken various continuing education courses pursuant to his profession as an insurance agent. Boswell Insurance Agency, Inc. has won many awards including four of the prestigious Ring-Of-Honor. Through his success in the insurance profession, he has been awarded many trips to locations throughout the world.
In 2003, he was selected as “Volunteer of the Year” by the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce and named “Man of the Year” by the Enterprise Pilot Club. In 2006, he was appointed by the Governor to the Advisory Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention for the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs and named “Individual/Professional of the Year” by the Coffee/Geneva County Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities, an affiliate of the Alabama Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities. He also serves on the Governor’s Biofuels Advisory Committee and the Economic and Community Affairs Urban Housing Committee. In September, 2007 he received the State of Alabama Emergency Management Agency Public Service Award. In April 2008, he was recognized at the White House by the Small Business Administration and received the Phoenix Award for Public Service after a disaster, which is a highly competitive, prestigious honor. Mayor Boswell was most recently appointed to the Alabama Job Creation and Military Stability Commission’s Military Stability Foundation Board of Directors by Lt. Governor, Kay Ivey. In the Fall of 2012, Ivey appointed Boswell to the Military Stability Commission. This prestigious board’s mission is to protect current military jobs and enhance the Federal asset base in the State of Alabama.
In 2008, Mayor Boswell was one of only five Mayors invited to participate in the Design Alabama Community Program, a statewide partner of the Alabama State Council on the Arts. This program works with design professionals to create strategic and master plans for community development and downtown revitalization. He was recently appointed to serve on the State Broadband Advisory Committee, which seeks to provide broadband access to rural areas across the state. He was also appointed at the national level to serve on the National League of Cities Information Technology and Communications Policy and Advocacy Committee where he will help address technology issues for municipalities. In 2012, Mayor Boswell was selected to Leadership Alabama. Leadership Alabama puts leaders from all over Alabama together and they work in concert to help move Alabama forward.
In 2004, he became a Certified Municipal Official. In 2006, he received an Advanced Municipal Official Designation through the Alabama League of Municipalities and a Certified Alabama Planning and Zoning Official through the Alabama Planning Institute, the University of North Alabama and the Alabama Chamber of the American Planning Association.
He serves on the Enterprise Planning Commission, Enterprise Airport Authority, Enterprise Employees Benefits Committee, Enterprise Water Works Board, Enterprise Coffee Geneva Economic Development Corporation Board, Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center Board, Southeast Alabama Planning and Zoning Board, Southeast Alabama Council on Aging and the Coffee County Emergency Management Agency Board. He is a member and past Chairman of the Southeast Alabama Gas District Board. He is the past President of the 2nd Congressional District Municipal Association. He also serves as an Ex-Officio Board member of the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce. He is a member and past President of AUSA.
